75 % of those living below the poverty line are small holder farmers, SIT has targeted them with a poverty reduction initiative

With the realization that 75 % of those living below the poverty line are small holder farmers, SIT has targeted them with a poverty reduction initiative that is aimed at achieving rapid results. This is achieved through a field officer whose responsibility is to train groups to farm for profit. With the help of the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), we have established a demonstration farm and a potato store where our group members will learn the modern methods of farming. Moreover, IFDC, in collaboration with grassroots organizations, seeks to improve rural livelihoods and food security in Kenya, by accelerating inclusive business in agri-food industries through public-private partnerships.

Presently, IFDC is focusing on strengthening the Potato Value Chain in Kenya to boost quality and profitability for smallholder potato farmers while focusing on technology and training. Part of the programme includes the building of potato stores to reduce crop waste
